What is the date of the wedding?
Our wedding date is Saturday April 12, 2008.
At what time does the ceremony begin?
The ceremony begins at 14.00 (2PM), and is followed by a reception which will likely start between 15.30 (3.30PM) and 16.00 (4PM).
What is the wedding location?
We will be married in Orangerie Ruurlo. More information at their website. The address is Stapeldijk 1, Ruurlo.
What is the dress code?
Formal and festive
Is there parking at the wedding location?
Yes, there is ample parking around the castle and the Orangerie.
How do I get to the wedding location by public transport?
Please take a train to Ruurlo station on April 12. From there to our wedding location is a short walk. If you are visiting from the US, please take a train to Hengelo station on April 11!. More information on travelling to the wedding can be found here.
Do I need to travel from the ceremony to the reception?
You can easily walk from the castle to the reception area.
Where can I spend the night?
We have a couple of suggestions. Please check the section on this site about lodging.
What about transport to my hotel?
If there are enough people staying in hotels in the area, we will arrange for a shuttle bus to transport you to your hotel.
We’d like to bring a gift. Do you have a wish list?
Your presence at our wedding will be our gift. However, we will not object if you do decide to get us something! We have a giftlist registered at Bijenkorf. Alternatively, we welcome support for our honeymoon fund. For more information, or other ideas, please check with Joost, our master of ceremony.
I am coming over from the US. What is the time difference?
The time difference between the West coast and the Netherlands is 9 hours. The time difference from the East coast and the Netherlands is 6 hours. The Netherlands is ahead on time, so for example: if it is 9PM in the Netherlands it is noon time in SF and 3PM in Washington DC. We highly recommend you arrive at least 3 days before the wedding to get used to the new time zone. Here is a site with some advice about how to handle jet lag.
Can you give some practical information about the Netherlands?
In the Netherlands, our native tongue is Dutch. However, almost everyone you meet will be able to speak some English; at least enough to help you with directions.
Most countries in Europe, including the Netherlands, use the euro. Here is a link to a currency converter. ATMs are called “geldautomaat” and are easily found. You can use your foreign bank card to take out money. Credit cards are accepted in most restaurants, but not in all shops and museums. Check cards or debit cards are more widely accepted. It is wise to always have some cash with you. Please note the cost of living in Europe at present is a bit higher than in the US.
The Netherlands are generally safe. You should probably look out for pickpockets, particularly on trains and in the larger cities. If you do rent a bike, make sure to lock it well!
Do you have any suggestions on other things to see or do once I'm in the Netherlands?
There's lots to see in Holland! Please check this part of the website for our personal suggestions.
What is the climate like in the Netherlands in April?
We have a saying in the Netherlands: “April doet wat hij wil”, which means April does what he wants. Essentially, the weather is unpredictable during this month. We recommend that you bring different layers, including a waterproof jacket. Make sure to check CNN Weather a few days before you come over to the Netherlands. If you plan on doing some sightseeing, be sure to bring comfortable shoes, preferably flats as the cobblestone streets are cute but not great for heels.
This sounds great! I want to come join the festivities. How do I RSVP?
Please send an e-mail to ivanandsophie@gmail.com informing us of:
- whether you will be coming and whether you’re bringing a guest
- whether you will stay in a hotel in the area and you’re interested in the shuttle van taking you there after the party
